The Cornish coffee scene has a new champion, and it’s one that’s roasting, pouring, and proving its worth on the national stage. Dark Pony Coffee, tucked away in the heart of Falmouth, has just been named one of the 44 Greatest Coffee Shops in Britain by Time Out.
In a significant coup for the West Country, the Falmouth roastery and cafe has earned the distinction of being the only establishment in Cornwall or Devon to make the prestigious 2026 list.
The Rigorous Road to the Top
Being named among the UK’s elite isn't just about a good latte art heart. Dark Pony was judged against a demanding set of criteria that separates the "good" from the "world-class":
The Roast: Barista expertise and the sheer quality of the bean.
The Vibe: Ambiance, community spirit, and consistent innovation.
The Ethics: Sustainable practices and support for global producers.
The Extras: High-quality food, pastries, and top-tier customer service.

From Passion Project to National Recognition
Founded in May 2022 by friends Mael, Grace, and Jacob, Dark Pony was born from a shared obsession with the perfect cup. Unlike many cafes that simply buy in their supply, this trio does it all. From sourcing and roasting to packaging and distributing, the entire process happens in-house right here in Cornwall.
"Our vision for Dark Pony has always been to make the world of specialty coffee fun and inclusive to all," says Co-Director Mael. "To be recognised amongst some of the fantastic coffee shops on this list is a great honour and we are incredibly proud to represent Falmouth."
Whether you are a coffee aficionado or just looking for a welcoming neighbourhood spot on The Moor, Dark Pony is proving that Cornish craft can compete with the very best the UK has to offer.
